In the fifteenth Lok Sabha elections, people voted for Supaul Lok Sabha seat for the first time. Supaul Lok Sabha constituency came into existence after delimitation in 2009. Supaul is identified with the river Kosi. In the three Lok Sabha elections held here so far, the outgoing MP has been rejected by the public and he has become the former. Twice JDU and once Congress candidate has hoisted the flag of victory here. For the first time, JDU’s Vishwamohan Kumar won here as an NDA candidate. However, when JDU separated from NDA in 2014, Vishwamohan joined BJP. BJP made Kameshwar Chaupal its candidate. In a triangular contest, Ranjit Ranjan of Congress defeated Dileshwar Kamat of JDU. However, in 2019, JDU returned to NDA and Dileshwar Kamat, who became the candidate for the second time, defeated the then outgoing Congress MP by about 2.5 lakh votes. This time Dileshwar is again the NDA candidate on JDU ticket. RJD has fielded its candidate here for the first time after the same Lok Sabha constituency came into existence. RJD candidate Chandrahas Chaupal is a first-time MLA from Sinheshwar assembly constituency of Madhepura district. Before this he was the chief and was also involved in BJP. In the 2020 assembly elections, RJD had fielded him from Sinheshwar. Apart from this, independent candidate Baidyanath Mehta is in the news this time, who can spoil the electoral mathematics of both the major alliances. Baidyanath Mehta, a former IRS officer, left his job for 7 years and took VRS last year and was the national general secretary of Upendra Kushwaha’s party Rashtriya Lok Morcha. He left the party after seat sharing in NDA. He has been quite active in the field since last one year.
At present, the election chariot of ‘Amar Ujala’ ‘Satta Ka Sangram’ is also in Bihar and has reached Supaul to talk to the people as per its pre-determined programme. Voters are being asked about their feelings under the pretext of discussion over tea near Mahavir Chowk of the city.
